How long do you want to walk?
Are the Warsaw walks in Polish?
Some are. The collection is mostly Russian, with a few in Polish, English and Ukrainian — Warsaw is the one city on Baiki where four languages are in use. Each walk is written in one language and is not translated; a Polish walk and a Russian walk of the same district are different routes with different stops. The language is shown on every card below.
How long is a typical Warsaw walk?
Most run between one and three hours at an unhurried pace, covering two to five kilometres. The listed duration assumes you stop and listen at each stop rather than walking through the audio, so it is longer than the same route would take you at speed. A few longer routes cross the river and take most of an afternoon.
How much does it cost?
Listening is free for everything that is already written, including the first story of every walk. A payment writes the remaining stories of one walk — £4.99, £7.99 or £19.99 depending on how long a walk you want — and from then on those stories are free for everyone. Stripe handles the payment and any local VAT.
Do I need data while walking?
Yes. The audio streams stop by stop, so you need a connection as you go; there is no offline download yet. Warsaw's centre and Old Town have reliable coverage. If you know you will be underground or out of signal, read the text of the stories first — the full text of every story on this site is free and works as a fallback.
Who checks that these places exist?
Every stop is looked up in Google Maps before a story is written about it, and a stop that cannot be found anywhere is dropped from the route. Places that are real but have no map pin — a plaque, a carving, the site of a demolished building — are kept deliberately, because they are usually the reason a walk is worth taking.
