Spread out before you is the crowning panoramic belvedere above the Cascade, providing the iconic postcard vista of Yerevan immortalized in countless photographs and paintings. Perched more than one hundred and thirty meters above downtown, the entire city unfolds at your feet like a living architectural map: the neat grid of Kentron, the green arc of Circular Park, and the circular crown of the Opera Theatre glowing in the basin below.

Floating majestically upon the southern horizon is the sacred mountain of the Armenian people—Mount Ararat, known in Armenian as Masis. This colossal dormant volcanic massif consists of two joined volcanic cones: Greater Ararat rising to five thousand one hundred and thirty-seven meters and Lesser Ararat, Sis, reaching three thousand nine hundred and twenty-five meters. The immense vertical rise from the valley floor to the snow-covered summit produces an overwhelming sensation of natural grandeur and timeless majesty.

According to the biblical Book of Genesis, it was upon the mountains of Ararat that Noah's Ark came to rest after the Great Deluge, preserving Noah, his family, and the creatures of the earth. Biblical tradition holds that from the slopes of Ararat human civilization began its second dawn, and Noah planted the very first grapevine in the fertile soil of the Ararat valley. Although the mountain lies just across the closed international frontier today, it remains the eternal spiritual symbol of Armenia, emblazoned at the center of the national coat of arms.

At sunset, golden rays tint the glaciers of Ararat in delicate shades of rose and amber while Yerevan below sinks into lavender twilight, illuminated by thousands of twinkling city lights. Below you, the pink tufa facades of Kentron glow with warm salmon hues, surrounded by green park rings, historic churches, and the deep winding fissure of the Hrazdan gorge framed by distant blue mountain ranges. The sweeping vista captures the full majesty of Alexander Tamanyan's master plan unfolding toward biblical Mount Ararat.

Turn east and cross Azatutyan Avenue toward the grand classical entrance colonnade of Victory Park.
