Stroll along the broad, rocky crest of the summit plateau, elevated four hundred meters above the sea. Looking west along the Dalmatian coast, an extraordinary island seascape opens before your eyes: the lush, sun-drenched Elafiti archipelago rests upon the sapphire water like scattered emeralds, with the inhabited islands of Koločep, Lopud, and Šipan stretching toward the Pelješac peninsula.

The name of the archipelago originates from the ancient Greek word elaphos, meaning a red deer. The first-century Roman naturalist Pliny the Elder recorded that these forested islands were home to large herds of wild deer that swam across the narrow channels between the islands and the mainland.

In the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the Elafiti Islands served as the summer playground and naval bastion of Ragusa. The island of Lopud alone boasted thirty churches, two monasteries, and dozens of palatial summer residences owned by Ragusan patrician sea captains whose galleons traded across the globe. The crystal-clear sea between the islands is a renowned sailing paradise where sheltered coves and sandy beaches have welcomed mariners since antiquity. Looking down from the summit ridge, the white wakes of luxury catamarans and traditional wooden sailing barques carve graceful curves across the boundless azure expanse, completing an unforgettable maritime panorama. Exploring these high rocky ledges beneath the warm Dalmatian sun brings a sublime feeling of boundless freedom, as though the entire Adriatic realm were spread beneath your feet.

On crystal-clear days following a brisk northern bura wind, the visibility from this summit ridge is astonishing: looking far across the southern Adriatic to the southwest, sharp-eyed observers can glimpse the faint purple outline of Monte Gargano on the Italian coastline, more than one hundred and fifty kilometers away. The boundless horizon creates an unforgettable sensation of geographical grandeur.

Walk eastward toward the monumental White Cross standing proudly on the summit.
