Enter the cavernous, multi-level creative sanctuary of A4 Space inside Warehouse 4, one of Alserkal Avenue's earliest cultural foundations. Designed as a free, open-access community workspace, this double-height industrial warehouse features a soaring mezzanine library lined with thousands of donated art monographs. Independent writers, graphic designers, and startup founders work together at reclaimed timber communal desks beneath hanging green pothos vines and industrial lamps. The aroma of freshly pulled single-origin espresso from Raw Coffee Company mingles with the quiet, focused energy of creative collaboration. It represents a democratic public gathering place where anyone can read, work, or connect without paying admission.

Climb the steel industrial staircase to the mezzanine level to browse the public community library. Over five thousand art, design, architecture, and photography volumes were generously donated by residents, visiting curators, and international embassies. Anyone can sit in one of the leather armchairs and read rare out-of-print monographs on Middle Eastern modernism, Islamic calligraphy, and contemporary African photography. Sunlight pours through the high corrugated warehouse roof, illuminating quiet reading nooks suspended above the communal work floor below.

A4 Space pioneered the concept of non-commercial, civic third spaces in modern Dubai. Rather than requiring visitors to purchase food or pay expensive membership fees, the venue welcomes anyone who needs a quiet space to read, write, or brainstorm creative ideas. The ground floor features a dedicated screening room and project space where emerging artists hold pop-up exhibitions and host free community workshops on ceramic throwing, printmaking, and creative writing. It has served as the launchpad for dozens of successful design studios and cultural initiatives.

Look closely at the raw plywood bleacher seating at the back: it was constructed entirely from upcycled wooden packing crates that brought international sculptures to Dubai.

Exit Warehouse 4 and walk south along the pedestrian corridor toward Green Art Gallery and the contemporary gallery row.
