But its founder, Cedric Bardawil, is no ordinary gallerist. He's a curator, journalist, and DJ who spent a decade blurring the lines between art and sound before he ever had a permanent address.......... Back in twenty twelve, Bardawil started something called "Something in the Attic," an ongoing series of exhibitions that combined visual art with music. These were nomadic, popping up in unlikely venues across London. His Fourth Sounds project brought together music and visual art, and his experience in music included a five-year DJ residency at Brilliant Corners, one of east London's most revered listening bars. He's hosted on Nts Radio and Worldwide FM, and contributed to The Vinyl Factory.......... And then... in twenty twenty-two, he found This space. Located in a listed building in Soho, the gallery was developed with multidisciplinary artists in mind and includes a sound system custom-engineered for the space. Think about that. The gallery has its own record label, called Fourth Sounds, focused on releasing sound works, avant-garde music, and artist records on vinyl. In the last third of the nineteenth century, this very street experienced a renewed influx of foreigners into Soho. Among the refugees from the suppression of the Paris Commune were the poets Verlaine and Rimbaud, and in the winter of eighteen seventy-two to seventy-three, one of their haunts was a bar at the eastern end of Old Compton Street. Rebels, poets, artists... this street has Always attracted people who refuse to fit neatly into categories.......... Bardawil himself came from an unlikely path β€” he studied at the Sotheby's Institute of Art for his masters in Contemporary Art, but before that he had worked in finance at Bloomberg.
